Job Description Library Student Assistants play a key role in carrying out routine library procedures and tasks in the Canaday, Carpenter, and/or Collier libraries. This is a dynamic role that requires frequent movement and the ability to quickly switch between tasks. Shifts may be scheduled across all three libraries on campus. As a customer service-focused position, assisting library patrons is the highest priority. Students must demonstrate a high level of responsibility, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn while helping others. The role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to serve as an effective liaison between the library and its patrons. Students must be independent and manage their responsibilities unsupervised, particularly during evening or weekend shifts when librarians are not present. Punctuality, dependability, and discretion in handling confidential information are essential. Key Responsibilities: •Assist with the circulation of materials by checking out books, course reserves, processing returns, and shelving books in call number order. •Provide friendly and helpful service to patrons both in-person and over the phone. •Answer basic reference questions, provide directions, assist with library catalog searches and locating materials, help with library services such as interlibrary loan, database access, and printing. •Help open and close the library depending on scheduled shifts, and maintain a clean and organized circulation area. •Assist in collecting requested books from the library stacks and help search for missing items when required. •Perform other library-related tasks as needed by library staff. •Other duties as assigned REVIEW OF APPLICATION WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY APRIL 7th
Job Requirements •Must be a matriculating BMC student currently enrolled in a degree program. •This is an on-campus, in-person position. •Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. •Willingness to learn new tasks •Responsible, reliable, and ethical, with respect for confidentiality and privacy when handling patron information. •Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during evening and weekend shifts. •Be punctual for scheduled shifts or find a replacement if unable to attend. Maintain regular attendance and ensure emergency coverage for sick days. •Flexibility in scheduling is required, as some shifts may be evenings or weekends.
