Job Description |
Makerspace Assistants support the day to day operational needs of the makerspace. Duties may include:
Staffing and monitoring the space during evening and weekend hours, and serving as a welcoming point of first contact.
Providing support for use of design and fabrication software and equipment.
Keeping the Makerspace clean, and performing daily and weekly inventory and maintenance checks on equipment.
Supporting staff with programming, special projects, outreach and instruction.
Helping to reinforce adherence to safety and conduct guidelines within the space.
Some projects may be tailored to a worker's skills and interest- this is a good opportunity for someone with a demonstrated interest in art, craft, design who wishes to develop their own design, prototyping or fabrication skills in a work setting.

Job Requirements |
This is a public facing role, and all work will take place in one of the Makerspace locations. Opportunities to work with us on other events around campus may be available.
We will provide training on all relevant software and equipment and do not expect any prior experience.
Requirements include:
Ability to keep a regular schedule and communicate about any anticipated absences or late arrivals.
Ability to work in a shop environment where multiple projects may be taking place simultaneously- this environment may be loud or dusty when tools or the woodshop are in use.
Ability to lift up to 35lbs, work on a ladder, and kneel to reach outlets that are mounted above or under work stations.
Ability to operate power tools and woodshop equipment (stationary saws, drill press, table saw) while observing safety procedures.
Ability to learn basic sewing machine use and maintenance.
Interest and ability to learn new software, and to work independently to answer questions or troubleshoot issues as they come up.
Familiarity with use of equipment manuals, help menus, and online support forums for self-directed learning. |
