Job Description This position is responsible for the design of the poster, program, and other marketing materials for the Theater Program’s shows. The appropriate candidate is an experienced graphic designer and visual artist who is interested in creating work for hire in conjunction with performance projects, taking the time to understand the director’s vision for those projects, and then independently developing visual concepts. The candidate will do independent research, go through the dramaturgical research already created for the show, bring their own concepts to the table, listen to the concepts that the director is interested in, and develop and articulate designs and strategies to create a strong visual marketing presence for and to build excitement about the shows around campus.
Job Requirements In-depth knowledge of and facility with Photoshop, InDesign, and/or other graphic design programs is a must. Photography skills are a plus. The candidate must submit a design portfolio/samples with their application. The right candidate for this job will be able to dig deep into the world of the Program’s shows in order to develop their ideas; speak about design to non-designer artists; articulate their ideas clearly; and to work collaboratively, always understanding that the design they create is work for hire, and that the director of the show and the head of the Theater Program will ultimately have the final say on all aspects of the design and marketing. Candidate must have the ability to take criticism and to use that criticism in order to rework their images/ideas into ones that work for the Program’s productions. Candidate must also have the ability to work independently, to stick to deadlines, to keep track of offsite work hours, and to contribute as a mature member of the production team.
