Job Description |
The BMC Community Garden Coordinator will work with other Civic Engagement (CE) Student Coordinators and staff to promote involvement in service, activism and advocacy among members of the Bryn Mawr community. Specifically, the BMC Community Garden Coordinator will work to physically maintain the community garden on campus located next to the New Dorm Dining Hall. The Coordinator will promote student involvement in the garden through recruitment and coordination of volunteers and facilitate connections with local environmental organizations through outreach and service. This work will include: Recruiting, coordinating, and managing volunteers who will assist the Coordinator in maintaining the garden by planting seedlings, weeding, harvesting produce, restocking supplies, caring for gardening tools, watering and maintaining the health of soil and immediate health of garden • Facilitating the distribution of the produce harvested from the gardens; • Preparing the garden for winter at the end of the growing season; • Contributing to social media outreach efforts to promote the garden and garden-related activities to the campus community; • Maintaining relationships with campus garden stakeholders (New Dorm Dining Hall, BMC Grounds, the Post Bac students, Sustainability Leadership Group, etc.); • Linking community service events to the campus community garden when possible, working with both on and off campus service groups; • Identifying opportunities to increase the visibility and impact of the community gardens; and • Engaging in larger campus community around related social justice issues (food, environmentalism, etc.). The coordinator will also meet regularly with the head of BMC Grounds to coordinate support for the Community Garden. |

Job Requirements |
• The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in environmentalism, gardening, and civic engagement.
• The candidate can work independently, be self-motivated, manage their own time, and complete all expected tasks.
• Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized and diligent in their work.
• The student must be an independent worker, a creative thinker, and have some experience with outreach/volunteer efforts.
• Candidate must have excellent communication skills (written and spoken) and collaboration skills
• Candidate must be available 6-8 hours (on average) per week during the academic year. These will vary with the garden’s growing season.
o Hours include but are not limited to:
? Required participation in the Student Coordinator Fall Training;
? Attending monthly CE Student Coordinator trainings/reflections;
? Meeting weekly for supervision with Civic Engagement staff as well as meetings with BMC Grounds; and
? Assist with any other Career & Civic Engagement Center events as able. |
