Job Description Help Desk Student Technicians (HDSTs) assist community members with computer related questions in person, electronically, and on the phone. Candidates will also assist Support Services staff in doing hand-on, deskside support for members of the college community and/or be asked to take on special projects. They will be expected to develop and maintain a professional level of knowledge of the college’s Information Services technologies, services, and processes. Candidates must demonstrate personal initiative, dedication to service, excellent communication skills, and technological competency. Curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to learn quickly, and the ability to remain calm and professional in difficult or emergency situations are crucial.
Job Requirements RESPONSIBILITIES: • Respond to community requests and provide troubleshooting steps and problem resolutions via email, telephone, and in-person, including deskside support. • Work with a ticketing system to initiate, update, route, and resolve requests accurately and efficiently. • Act as a resource for other HDSTs. • Communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse community of staff, students, and faculty. • Must be able to learn new tasks quickly and retain knowledge of things that were learned. • Must be able to work effectively with moderate to little direct supervision. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, INCLUDING ADA REQUIREMENTS: • Be a matriculating Bryn Mawr College student. • Be familiar with one or more supported operating systems (Windows 7 and/or Mac OS 10.6/7), Microsoft Office, Zimbra, and Moodle/Blackboard. • Work a minimum of 10 hours/week. • Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. • Vision sufficient to see computer monitor. • Dexterity sufficient to operate computer keyboard. • Excellent hearing/speaking skills • Ability to climb stairs and circulate between campus buildings.
